Edit a patient's details
- Owner
- Practitioner
On this page
You can keep a patient’s details up to date from the Profile tab of their record. This is also where you record allergies and private clinical notes.
Before you start
- Owners and practitioners can edit patient details. Receptionists can view the Profile tab but can’t change it: they see Your role can view this patient’s details but not change them., the fields are greyed out and there’s no Save changes button.
- The patient must already be in Clinicify. See Add a patient.
Steps
- Select Patients in the left sidebar and open the patient’s record.
- Stay on the Profile tab.
- Under Contact information, update the First name, Last name, Phone or Date of birth.
- Under Medical notes, update Known allergies and Clinical notes as needed.
- Under Notification preferences, tick or untick Email notifications and SMS notifications.
- Select Save changes.
What happens next
The button briefly shows Saved! and the changes apply straight away. New details are used in the next message Clinicify sends the patient.
Good to know
- Email can’t be changed here. The email address is what the patient signs in to the portal with, so it’s shown greyed out.
- Phone must be a UK mobile number. Enter it as 07… or +44… and Clinicify formats it. A landline or overseas number shows “Enter a valid UK mobile, e.g. 07123 456789.” and can’t be saved.
- Clinical notes are encrypted and never shown to the patient.
- SMS notifications is off for new patients until you or the patient turn it on. The exception is a patient who books online and gives a mobile number: it’s on for them, because they’ve asked for reminder texts. It controls optional texts such as appointment reminders. See Patient phone numbers and text messages.
- Patients can change their own message preferences in the portal. If you turn on Let patients update their own details, they can also change their name, phone and date of birth. See Patient portal settings.
