Your portal can be added to a patient’s home screen. It then opens full screen from its own icon, like an app, with your clinic’s name and logo. There’s nothing to download from an app store.

Before you start

  • The patient needs your portal address. An owner can copy it from Clinic settings > Details, under Patient portal URL.
  • These steps are for the patient to follow on their own phone. You can share this article with them.

Steps on an iPhone or iPad

  1. Open your clinic’s portal in Safari.
  2. When the Add to Home Screen message appears at the bottom of the screen, follow it. If it doesn’t appear, carry on with the next step.
  3. Select the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up).
  4. Select Add to Home Screen, then Add.

Steps on an Android phone

  1. Open your clinic’s portal in Chrome.
  2. When the Install patient portal message appears at the bottom of the screen, select Install app and confirm.
  3. If the message doesn’t appear, open Chrome’s menu (the three dots) and select Add to home screen or Install app.

What happens next

An icon appears on the patient’s home screen with your clinic’s name. It uses your clinic’s logo if you’ve uploaded one. Opening it takes them to your portal home page, and a long press on the icon offers shortcuts to Appointments and Results on phones that support them.

Good to know

  • If the patient closes the message with the cross, it won’t appear again on that device for 30 days. They can still add the portal from the browser menu.
  • The message doesn’t appear once the portal is already on the home screen.
  • Adding the portal to the home screen doesn’t change how patients hear from you. Messages still arrive by email and text, as before.
  • Patients still sign in with their email and a six-digit code. See How patients sign in.
