When the AI has read a lab report, a clinician checks every value against the original and approves it. Approving is what makes the results visible to the patient.

Before you start

  • Owners and practitioners review and publish lab results.
  • The upload must show Needs review. Uploads waiting for you are listed on the Lab Results page and under Lab results to review on your dashboard.

Steps

  1. Select Lab Results in the left sidebar.
  2. Select Review next to the upload.
  3. Select View original PDF (link expires in 5 min) to open the report in a new tab, so you can check the table against it.
  4. Work through each panel. Every row shows the Analyte, Value, Unit, Ref. range, Flag and Confidence.
  5. Check the highlighted rows first. These are values the AI was less than 85% confident about, and each panel shows how many are left to check.
  6. To correct a value, select the pencil icon on that row, change the value and select the save icon.
  7. When everything matches the report, select Approve & publish results to patient (or Approve & publish 2 panels to patient when there are several panels).

What happens next

With no lab results delay, the results appear in the patient’s portal straight away and the patient is sent a message to say they’re ready. With a delay, Clinicify tells you when they’ll be published, and the patient is told once they go live. The patient is only ever told once per upload.

Add a note for the patient

After you approve, the review page shows a Note for patient box for each panel. Type your comments (up to 2,000 characters) and select Save note. The patient sees it on their results page under From your practitioner. You can come back and change it later.

Delaying publication

If your clinic has a lab results delay set, approved results are held for that many hours before the patient can see them. The review page shows Scheduled to publish at with the date and time, and The patient cannot see these results yet. This gives you time to call the patient, or add your note, before they read the results.

To release them early, select Publish now. Otherwise the results go live when the delay ends, and the patient is told within about 30 minutes of that time.

The owner sets the delay in Clinic settings > Clinical defaults > Lab results delay, from 0 to 168 hours. See Clinical defaults.

Enter results manually

If the extraction is wrong in ways you can’t fix in the table (for example a wrong unit or reference range), select Enter manually. Add a Panel name, and optionally the Laboratory name and Sample date, then fill in a row for each result. Use Add row and Add another panel as needed, then select Save & publish to patient.

Manually entered results follow your clinic’s lab results delay in the same way as approved ones, and the patient is told when they go live.

Reject an upload

If the report belongs to someone else, can’t be read, or is a duplicate, select Reject, enter a Reason and select Reject upload. Nothing is published, and the reason stays on the upload for whoever looks at it next.

Good to know

  • In the table you can edit the value only. Anything else that’s wrong needs manual entry.
  • The AI reads what’s printed on the report. It doesn’t interpret results, and the flags (H, L, HH, LL) are the ones on the lab’s report.
  • Critically high or low flags (HH, LL) are marked in red so they stand out.
  • Approving, publishing early and manual entry are all recorded in the audit log with who did it.
